During 2005-2009, this informal event drew 30-40 riders
each year.
It's just a group of riders from the local area and
surrounding states getting together to ride the great roads
in the area, and all makes and models of Euro-bikes (Triumph,
Ducati, BMW, Moto Guzzi, KTM, Ural, etc.) are welcome. Each
rider is responsible for all their own costs (lodging, food,
fuel, etc.). The 2010 (volunteer) Event
Coordinators are
Garry Simmons (Pittsburgh,
PA), Mark Hawkins
(Hawkster)
(Frankfort, KY)
and Ron Woodhead
(Woody)
(State College, PA).
No registration fees,
event sponsors, door prizes, t-shirts,
award banquets, gizmos, route books or paid staff;
it's all up to you and therefore, "at your own risk."
This event is truly what you make it.
North Bend State
Park was selected for 2009 and 2010 in
order to provide some new locations and asphalt to explore and because they
offered camping and hotel accommodations in close
proximity. There are many other recreational facilities/activities available at this park, and
the staff is particularly helpful & friendly.

LODGE UPDATE
28 July 2010 from Mark Hawkins:
The lodge
is fully booked. One of my late guys called yesterday and they
are full. I confirmed it. There is a hotel in Harrisville also.
I sent that info to my group; several will be camping. I believe
we have a good group coming.
IF YOU WISH TO CAMP...
North
Bend State Park's "River
Run Campground" has a total of 49 camping sites, of which 26
sites have electric hookups.
The following
campsites are available:
- $20 per tent site
/ night (these sites are not reservable in advance),
- $23 for
electric only (reservable)
- $26 for electric & water service
(reservable).
Please call
them at 304-643-2931 to reserve a site (for those sites
with electric only).
Reservation Form (PDF) Link.
This campground is about 1/2 mile from the lodge; it's a
nice campground with hot showers, flush toilets and a camp
store.
They also have another (more remote from the lodge) campground available: "Cokeley Run
Campground" with electric and water at each site, but they are
not reservable.
CAMPSITE UPDATE 28 July 2010:
All reservable campsites at River Run Campground
are taken; a few not-reservable sites may be available. Sites at
the other campground (Cokeley Run) are available - but are not
reservable in advance.
The lodge restaurant is dry, opens at 7:00 AM daily, and is very
nice and reasonably priced. Please note that
"consumption of alcoholic beverages in public areas is forbidden
by state law."

ride routes of various lengths / durations - with

routes.
RIDE
OPTION 1: From Garry Simmons - 8:00 AM departure
My route hits some great twisties with
an extended lunch stop in the quaint Swiss
village of
Helvetia, WV. My
route is 300 miles of twisty state highways at a
sporty pace. We will head south on 16 for an
extended twisty fix, northeast on 4 to Sutton,
east on 15 to Diana, then north on 20 before
taking county roads to Helvetia. After lunch and
a look around the town, we will retrace our
steps back to route 20 and head for North Bend
via 4, 19, 5, 33, 47, 74 and more county roads.
Meet in the lodge parking lot between 7:30 and
7:45. Kickstands up and rolling at 8am. Should
be back around 5pm or so (no promises).
Update from Garry 15 Aug 2010: (with an
Ohio
route option) I just got back from
riding southeast Ohio today. Here is my
suggestion for a "not to be missed" ride. •
260 east to jct 537 • Right on 537 follow to
end at jct 26 • Left on 26 north follow to
jct 800 • Right on 800 south (short) to jct
255 • Left on 255 south or east back to river
Here is the map
(JPG file) of the best twisties to be found in
the region. This loop is amazing. It's
absolutely the best 50 miles of twisties to be
found anywhere in the region. 260 and 537 have
BRAND NEW pavement. 26 is in excellent shape.
255 was paved last year. You could do the
Sistersville Ferry to get back to WV too as the
ferry is right in the middle between the start
and end points of the loop. Top your gas tank
off in New Matamoras, then ride the route (50
miles one way), turn around and ride it back to
New Matamoras for the most intense 100 miles of
miles of riding you can imagine. Bring your "A"
game. Unrelenting corners on smooth pavement in
the boonies. Half of it is brand new pavement
(like this month). The rest is very new. Some
dirty corners, so be careful. If you like to get
a lean on, this route is NOT TO BE MISSED.
RIDE OPTION 2: From Woody - 9:00 AM
departure. The
popular "Sistersville Ferry / Southeast Ohio /
Mexican Restaurant Loop" has returned for 2010
c/o Woody.
Check out those route
details HERE! 8:30 AM assemble
at the lodge parking area; 9:00 AM departure
for the Sistersville Ferry! We'll run 2
groups, depending on the numbers. This ride will
end at the ice cream shop in nearby Cairo
SUPPER OPTIONS: A
number of options for an optional group supper will be
provided; please meet in the lodge parking area
at 5 PM and we can decide.
EVENING CAMPFIRE: An evening group
campfire (8:15-10 PM) is scheduled near the
lodge & amphitheater. The firewood will be supplied courtesy of
North Bend State Park. Let's hear those riding
stories!
