During 2005-2008, this informal event drew 30-40 riders
each year.
It's just a group of riders from the local area and
surrounding states getting together to ride the great roads
in the area, and all makes and models of Euro-bikes (Triumph,
Ducati, BMW, Moto Guzzi, KTM, Ural, etc.) are welcome. Each
rider is responsible for all their own costs (lodging, food,
fuel, etc.). No registration fees, no door prizes, no t-shirts,
award banquets, gizmos or route books, no paid staff; it's all up to you and therefore, "at your own risk."
This event is truly what you make it. The 2009 (volunteer) Event
Coordinators are
Garry Simmons (Pittsburgh,
PA), Mark Hawkins
(Hawkster)
(Frankfort, KY)
and Ron Woodhead
(Woody)
(State College, PA).
North Bend State
Park was selected for 2009 in
order to provide some new locations and asphalt to explore and because they
offered camping and hotel accommodations in close
proximity. There are many other recreational facilities/activities available at this park, and
the staff is particularly helpful & friendly.
IF YOU WISH TO STAY IN THE LODGE....a block of 10 double rooms for 21-23
Aug 09 under the group name "Euro Rider Rendezvous" was held.
The room block was released on 21 Jul 09 (30 days prior), but
you should still call to see what's available (lodge office
(304) 643-2931). Just
identify that
you are with "The EuroRider Rendezvous" and make your
reservations. The rate is $75 per night plus tax for up to two people
(with a 2-night minimum stay).
Decorated with solid oak furnishings, the lodge features 29
guest rooms featuring two double beds or a queen bed and double
bed, bath, air conditioning, telephone and color TV.
All their larger "deluxe suites" are already booked by others,
not related to the 2009 EuroRider
weekend . Nine deluxe cabins are also available to rent at the
park for 7 day blocks only (Monday > Monday only). Our group
coordinator there is Kristi Steed.
IF YOU WISH TO CAMP...
North
Bend State Park's "River
Run Campground" has a total of 49 camping sites, of which 26
sites have electric hookups.
Their
on-site "River Run Campground" is available at $18 per tent site
/ night (these sites are not reservable in advance), $21 for
electric only and $24 for electric & water service. Please call
them at 304-643-2931 ASAP to reserve a site (for electric sites
only). This campground is about 1/2 mile from the lodge; it's a
nice campground with hot showers, flush toilets and a camp
store.
They also have another campground available: "Cokeley Run
Campground."
UPDATE 17 AUG 09:
We understand that all rooms in the lodge and all "reservable"
campsites have now been reserved (not c/o this event). The tent
sites at their two campgrounds should still be available on a
first-come basis - until they are all taken.
The lodge restaurant is dry, opens at 7:00 AM daily, and is very
nice and reasonably priced. We are planning to all meet at
the restaurant on Saturday evening at 6:30 PM for a group dinner
(on-your-own, with separate checks). Please note that
"consumption of alcoholic beverages in public areas is forbidden
by state law."

Saturday,
22 Aug 09 - Restaurant opens at 7 AM.
Various Rides w/ volunteer leaders (2 rider meetings
are scheduled for Saturday morning per below).
Please note that each participant must sign the
Liability Waiver / Roster prior to participating
in any group rides.
So that all participants are aware of route /
destination options, TWO
RIDER MEETINGS (and two start-times) have been set:
1.
SAT. 7:30
AM RIDER MEETING: 8:00 AM departure from in front of
the Lodge with
Garry Simmons for an 8-hour excursion: "I
tend to be on the road by 8am because I like put some
miles in by dinner time. I have several loops figured
out that are in the 300-350 mile range. I know some folks
prefer a more relaxed start and a shorter day. I do like
to be back in the 4pm - 5pm time frame to socialize
while winding down. My
longer, sportier rides will be leaving the lodge at
8:00 AM and participants should be there before that."
Update
from Garry (14 Aug 09):
Four loops are available. Not
sure which one I'm going to do because they're all good
:-)
for details
on each of the four loops below
(including the Garmin MapSource and MS Streets & Trips 2008 route files):
A. WV Twisties (317 miles) - a fine day of WV twisty
goodness
B. OH Twisties (325 miles) - ride the best of southeast
Ohio's "rollercoasters"
C. New River Bridge (338 miles) - south to the New River
Gorge Bridge visitor center and back
D. Helvetia Loop (270 miles) - nice mix of state and
county roads with a mid-day stop in Helvetia. Check out
Helvetia's website HERE.
2.
SAT. 8:30 AM RIDER MEETING: 9:00 AM departure from in
front of the Lodge for those interested in exploring other
possible routes / destinations that will involve a loop
of 150-200 miles. Depending on the number of
volunteer Ride Leaders, we can check out several routes, draw from the interests of those present and
split up accordingly for an enjoyable day on the bikes.
One option will be a route to the
Sistersville WV Ferry
(YouTube
video link) across the Ohio River then to
explore some great roads in SW Ohio. Stretch
& Smoke Breaks and a lunch stop will be included in the 150
mile loop route.
Route Details HERE. Please print out
the Route Sheet before you come to the EuroRider
Rendezvous. Ride Leader: Woody
Another option could be a ride up to Cabela's in
Tridelphia (near Wheeling).
