Sun 25 July 2010, 10:30 AM - 6 PM NRR Restaurant Run to Skeeter's BBQ & the Millersburg Ferry c/o Jay Bartlett Route details posted HERE (PDF). JAY"S RIDE REPORT: Thanks to a patch of
stormy weather during our extended lunch stop at Skeeter's, the ride
turned into a bit more of an adventure than we bargained for. The first
leg, to the restaurant, we lucked out with cooling clouds but no rain and
a fast, safe trip through back roads to Shamokin Dam. A massive wave of
thunderstorms rolled in as lunch was being served, dampening everything
but spirits. It finally cleared enought for us to roll out at about 3 PM.
Because of the late departure and uncertainty of the weather, one group
led by Rick and Sandy elected to ride straight back to Happy Valley. The
remaining riders took a slightly shortened route to Millersburg, only to
find the ferry shut down for the day. However, since the weather had
cleared, we enjoyed a nice ride down through Clarks Ferry and back up 322
to Millerstown for a refreshing stop at Hall's Ice Cream. By then it was 5
PM, so people needing to get back home slabbed it up 322 while the
remaining adventurers took the scenic, more challenging back roads to
Lewistown via Port Royal and home from there. 15 people participated on 11 bikes: Brad and Glenda Borror, Brad and Arlene Couch, Harry Moore, Jack Portser, Chris Clark, Al Klinger, Rick Sampsell and Sandy Mellott, Rob Royer, Matt L., Ann and Woody, Jay Bartlett |

We had 13 people out today, a nice turnout. Thank you Matt for doing a dry run with me, providing valuable feedback and for being my tail-gunner today. The long distance award goes to Jim who rode 350 miles to make the ride. I'm glad you were able to make "your" ride. It's all yours again next year. :) Beth, I'm glad that you made a NRR ride. I hope to see you at future rides. Welcome to the group! Thank you all for your patience for today was the first time I've led a group. I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to be behind me." Andrew
Biddle NRR
Day Tour to PA Elk CountryRIDE REPORT from Andrew Biddle: We had 5 riders: Andrew Biddle, Paul Hoffmann, John Johnston, Al Klinger, Jay Bartlett. We backroaded it, taking mostly traffic free roads up to The Medix Hotel for a nice lunch. Jay kept up his 3 year tradition of consuming an Elk Burger. We then cruised the town of Benezette, hoping to spot one of the so-called 'townie' Elks, without seeing as much as a large dog, we then headed over to the new Visitors Center. It's a great building, lot's of displays, the outside gives you a Cabela's feeling and the museum shop quality gift items are sure to please grandmother's from all over. The 22 minute movie, which I had heard was 'can't miss', was booked 3 shows out, so we hightailed it out of there, skipping the Winslow Viewing area. Taking 555 and looping around we enjoyed a completely wide open Wycoff Run, Quehanna, 879 and 144. It was a great day of riding, 95% bug free, perfect temp, and everyone getting home safe. |

Woody & Ann NRR Veteran's Day Ride (to the Twin Kiss Restaurant near Howard) RIDE REPORT from Woody: With temps in the mid-40's, this ride could also be known as: The NRR Pie Run, The NRR Die Hard Run, the NRR Pre-Stabil Run or the The NRR Sunset Ride - but whatever you call it, it was GREAT! Thanks to an impromptu route suggestion by Jon Polay, the scenary and the twisties were terrific. We arrived at the restaurant about 3 PM and promptly cleaned out their stock of pies. A super group of 10 on 9 bikes attended: Jon Polay, Ken Smith, Al Klinger, Jack Portser (rode up from Johnstown!), Bill Harvey, John Johnston, Jay Bartlett, Matt L., and Woody & Ann. We got home at 4:30 PM. We heard prior regrets from Brad Babcock (pheasant hunting in the Dakotas) and the 3 folks completing their MSF RiderCoach Training the same day: Dan Lehman, Kris Robinson & Chris Clark. Good thing, considering the empty pie supply! Thanks, all, for a fun afternoon. |
Our thanks to Jack Portser for taking these photos. |
