We're
ready
to ride in 2010...
The minds, the food,
the event suggestions
and the calendar all came together at the
NRR 2010 Planning Meeting on Sunday, 21 Feb 2010 at
Prospector's Restaurant, State College. Based upon the various
suggestions below, the group worked thru the riding calendar
(Apr-Oct) to develop an initial ride plan.
CLICK HERE to view the NRR 2010 Event Schedule
that developed at the meeting.
We couldn't schedule
every idea (as listed below), so there are suggestions that hopefully may develop as "Impromptu
Rides" during 2010 - with a few days advance notice to
fellow riders. All it takes is for someone to speak up and it's a
GO!.
Our thanks to the
17 individuals that attended the meeting, including the 3
members that rode to the meeting:

In addition to the 2010 events, a
number of other ideas developed at the meeting for 2010: - Move the
Restaurant Run rides to depart at 10:00 AM Sundays, - Organize a
Labor Day Weekend Trip on US Rt. 6 (PA) & up to the Finger Lakes, - Survey the
members to see who would be interested in re-ordering NRR t-shirts,
- Add a page to the NRR website to allow members to post used m/c gear
for sale to fellow members, - Proceed with the suggested "Preseason Prep / Tech Day"
in April, - Continuing to foster the additional riding options
provided by the SCME group. This cooperation has strengthened both
groups and provided more riding opportunities.
IDEAS FOR 2010 EVENTS & DESTINATIONS
Possible NRR Restaurant Run Destinations
(on Sundays, usually within 90 minutes of State College)
-
Piper Aircraft Museum & their
"Fly-In Pancake Breakfast" in Lock Haven on Sun. 2 May 2010 (8 AM -
Noon). They'll also have lunch available 11 AM - 4 PM. They
serve the meals right in the hanger - beside the classic Pipers.
-
Slick's Ivy Stone Restaurant in
Osterburg (homemade pies available). After lunch, an optional run up
through the Blue Knob area, including a covered bridge, windmills,
an elk herd and some solid mountain curves. (Jack Portser)
- The
Black Forest Inn Loop (suggested by
John Mahon)
- Kountry Kettle Family Restaurant, Hopewell PA (near Everett)
- The
Watson Inn, Watsontown PA
- The
Front Street Station (train-theme restaurant),
Northumberland PA
- The Old West Family Restaurant, Hustontown (Fulton Co.), PA -
Skeeter's Pit Barbeque, Shamokin Dam PA (annual repeat)
Possible
NRR Day Tour Destinations (Sat. or Sun., a day-long ride)
- Events listed in the 2010 Master Event Schedule - Lawn FIre
Company Breakfast M/C Gathering, $8 pp, 7AM-noon on the 3rd Sunday
starting in May, Lawn, PA (Dan & Ann Lehman)
-
Bob Logue's Honda Museum,
Williamsport PA via Sugar & Nippenose Valleys (museum closed
Sundays)- and, yep, there's a super family-style restaurant
w/ pie right nearby (Brad Babcock)
- Matt Langguth suggested a day tour departing from KMS. 208 miles
round trip route at
http://tinyurl.com/cowansgap. Via US Route 30, Mountain House
Bar & Grill for lunch, Cowan's Gap State Park, Orbonsia rest stop,
then home. Route subject to change based on
suggestions and recommendations. I'd like to ride the loop a couple
of times myself before the actually run so an late-summer / early-fall time frame would be best.
- The
Yuengling Brewery,
Pottsville PA then the "Squeeze-In" (a really-narrow hotdog shop,
closed on Sundays) in Sunbury PA -
Somerset County Covered Bridge Tour
-
Bill's Old Bike Barn (Privately-owned
museum), Berwick PA
- The
Old Library Restaurant in Olean NY (c/o Brad Babcock for their huge buffet)
- The town of
Berkeley Springs, WV for lunch (without
a massage)
- The
Drake Oil Well Museum, Titusville PA - The
B & O Railroad Museum, Baltimore MD - The
PA Railroad Museum at
Strasburg, Lancaster County, PA
- The
Millersburg Ferry (annual repeat) -
Knoebel's Grove Amusement Park (annual repeat)
- A good day ride would be to lunch at the Road Kill Cafe in
Artemas, southern Bedford County. It's several miles from Route 26
& scenic US 40 east of Cumberland. Sunday is not a good day as the
hours and menu are minimal; Saturday is better. I would be willing
to lead this ride (anytime other than the last half of July). (Bill
Maney)
Possible NRR Weekend Trip Destinations
- US Route 6 Ride (across PA)
- The
AMA Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame, Pickerington, OH
- Ride to established 2010 m/c events (Triumph Come Home, Hillclimbs,
WV EuroRiders Rendezvous, etc.) - Meet up with another Rider Group
for the weekend.
Possible Special NRR Events:
1. "Moto-Gear Garage Sale" Sell that gently-used
moto-gear,
parts and camping stuff you have laying around.
2. "Preseason Prep / Tech Day" Get together at
someone's place: do some light maintenance
on the bikes, add some new farkles and look over
our bikes to prep for a safe season. (Marty Mondock)
