Since "One size does not fit all," the
plan for 2009 is to offer rides for varied interests on a
regular, monthly
basis . . .
combined with:
(1) the opportunities provided by the many
established m/c
events in PA and nearby states, and
(2) offers for additional rides / events from fellow riders.
Additional events, including impromptu rides, can be added if / when
someone volunteers to act as that Ride Coordinator. So, as always,
volunteers are welcome to speak up. The Event Coordinator is responsible
to plan the ride route / times / destination and distribute the route
info to fellow riders. It is not required that the Ride Coordinator lead
the group on the road. All dates and details are subject to change by
the respective Event
Coordinator; the rides are "weather-permitting."
RIDE FORMAT:
Ride within your comfort level; the priorities are safety and fun.
Typically,
we do "one-way group
rides" to the destination, then folks are free come back with
the group, on their own or
via another route. Depending on those that show up and speak up, two Velocity Groups can be
set up (Cruisers and Sport Riders). Fuel
and food costs are on your own.
Each trip will leave
(weather-permitting)
from
the Kissell Motorsport's
shop. Please arrive at KMS 15 minutes prior, fueled and
ready-to-leave at the designated time. Please check the
Yahoo! Group
(a free subscription is required to join the email group) for any last-minute trip
details. In all cases, feel free to bring
along a fellow riding buddy, a seatmate and / or your camera.
New to the group?
You are welcome; just show up! Bikes with solo pilots and two-ups are always welcome.
New to group riding? No problem; our rides are actually "one-way
guided rides", but please check out
this flyer (PDF) from the Motorcycle Safety
Foundation. |

"NRR
Restaurant Run" Rides
The NRR Restaurant Run motto
is:
"90 minutes out, 90 minutes
back
with a meal sandwiched in between."
Not real comfortable
with "group rides?" These rides
are only "one-way guided rides" to the target restaurant, then after the meal folks
are welcome to come back as they wish (route, group, schedule, velocity, etc.). Departs from Kissell
Motorsports at 11:00 AM (depending on the target location); usually
returns about 5 PM. We don't take RSVPs since we
can't predict the weather and don't know how many to reserve for, so we
usually just take our chances and "show up" at the destination eatery.
Overall, these have been very enjoyable rides with an occasional
long meal, depending on the service there. |

"NRR
Day Tour"
Rides
The "NRR Day Tour"
is a full-day trip with a focus on
riding and saddle-time to a special event or destination.
Rides depart from Kissell Motorsports
(Kickstands Up at
the noted time).
Return about 5-6 PM, depending on the route. An optional, pre-ride
breakfast may also be held locally, depending on the route and departure
time.
(PS. And we don't ride like the guy in the photo...) |

Sun. 19 Apr 09
c/o John Johnston
"To the historic
Lewisburg Hotel, which is right on Market St. in the heart of
Lewisburg. We will leave KMS parking lot at 11 AM sharp on Sunday 19
Apr 09,
taking College Ave. west towards Pine Grove Mills, then turn east onto RT 45 for about 55 miles right into Lewisburg. After lunch, we
might take a few minutes to stroll around the Lewisburg town center,
then we will return via RT 192 through the R. B. Winter State Park (aka
Halfway Dam),
stopping for a breather, then continuing west on RT 192
into Centre Hall, where we will split up for home."
RIDE
REPORT: "We left the KMS parking lot at 11 am with 10 riders on 8
bikes and headed east on Rt. 45 to Lewisburg. Since this was a short
ride, we went out non-stop and were seated in the bar of the historic
Lewisburg Hotel by 12:30 pm. Since we were the only group ordering
lunch, service was fast and the food was tasty. We were mounted up
before 2 pm and headed back via Rt. 192, after a quick gas-up. We had a
relaxing stop at the dam at R. B. Winter State Park, and noted that the
roadside pull-off was almost full with vehicles of fishermen out for the
second day of trout season. After basking in the afternoon sun (!) for
awhile, we sprinted west toward Centre Hall, where we split for our homes
– I’m sure everyone got home by 3:30. All in all, a classic “season
opener” with the weather being surprisingly cooperative. Bring on the
rest of the riding season!"

Sat. 23
May 09 to the Flight 93 Memorial Site c/o
Andrew Biddle.
We will be meeting at Kissell Motorsports
at 8:30 AM, kickstands up and rolling at 9:00 AM. Round trip approx 225
miles. Plan to be home by 5PM. Lunch at the Historic Bedford Springs
Resort "Frontier Tavern." Destination: The Flight 93 Memorial.

Some of the menu items are pricey, but a burger or chicken sandwich w/

to this resort, but the public is welcome and it's supposed to be a
super nice place to check out. After lunch, we'll head west to the
Flight 93 Memorial, then head home...30 W to 403 North, 601 to
160, 53 cutting across on 164, to 36 and then taking the back way home
from Hollidaysburg.

RIDE REPORT from Andrew
Biddle: "We hit some rain heading to Petersburg, but it cleared and
turned out to be a really nice day. Lunch at Bedford Springs was
excellent, we kept the raping and pillaging to a minimum, and even left
quietly, so we are all welcome back - although some of the fancy-shmancy
guests were surprised to see us in our gear. The Flight 93 Memorial was
interesting in a somber way...over 100 hawgs passed us, exiting, as we
were coming in; it was an impressive group. We hit some really beautiful
back roads on the way home from a very long day, 200+ miles."

MORE VOLUNTEERS
WELCOME: Interested riders are encouraged to speak up to
organize and serve as Ride Coordinators for other rides.
So what's involved in
volunteering to coordinate an NRR Ride?
- Plan a favorite
destination & the loop routes (departing from the Kissell shop).
- Decide the date
& times (please check the main
2009
Master Event Schedule to avoid
conflicts with other events).
- Email the
details to
Woody to post here, then also post some info
& the URL for
the event for the NRR Yahoo! Group.
- Prepare the
Route Sheets for the trip. *
- Print out one of
the
NRR Waiver Forms to obtain the
signature of every
driver and rider just before departure.
- Get someone to
take some photos for the Photo Gallery.
* With regard to
the Route Sheets... (for safety, it's required that each rider be given a Route Sheet
with either the text route or a map with the route):
Tom D. King offered to donate the copying of route
sheets at his business (King
Printing). About 20 copies per ride is usually a safe
(optimistic) number.
