"THE 2008 RIDES"

All bikes & riders are welcome.

Visit the HighViz website...Since "One size does not fit all," the plan for 2008 is to offer rides for varied interests on a regular, monthly basis . . . combined with:
(1) the opportunities provided by the many established m/c events in PA and nearby states, and
(2) offers for new events / rides from fellow riders.

As a result, the planning group set up a framework with volunteer Ride Coordinators. Additional events, including impromptu rides, can be added if / when someone volunteers to act as that Ride Coordinator. So, as always, volunteers are welcome to speak up. The Event Coordinator is responsible to plan the ride route / times / destination and distribute the route info to fellow riders. It is not required that the Ride Coordinator lead the group on the road. All dates and details are subject to change by the respective Event Coordinator; the rides are "weather-permitting."

RIDE FORMAT: Ride within your comfort level; the priorities are safety and fun. Depending on those that show up and speak up, two Velocity Groups can be set up (Cruisers and Sport Riders).  Fuel and food costs are on your own. Each trip will leave from the Kissell Motorsport's shop (weather-permitting). Please arrive at KMS 15 minutes prior, fueled and ready-to-leave at the designated time. Please check the Yahoo! Group (a free subscription is required to join the email group) for any last-minute trip details. Typically, there is a "group ride" to the destination, then folks are free come back with the group, on their own or via another route.

In all cases, feel free to bring along a fellow riding buddy, a seatmate and / or your camera. New to the group? You are welcome; just show up!

"NRR
Restaurant Runs"
in Apr-Jun-Aug-Oct

The NRR RestRun motto is: "90 minutes out, 90 minutes back with a meal sandwiched in between."
Departs from Kissell Motorsports at 11:00 AM. Usually returns about 5 or 6 PM. Since we don't take RSVPs, can't predict the weather and don't know how many to reserve for, we usually just take our chances and "show up" at the destination eatery. Overall, these have been very enjoyable rides with an occasional long meal.

"NRR LongRuns"
in May-Jul-Sep

The NRR LongRun focus is on riding and saddle-time (acknowledging that "long" is a relative term).
Optional breakfast (depending on the route, and on-your-own) at the Waffle Shop, 364 West College Ave. at 8:00 AM. Rides depart from Kissell Motorsports - Kickstands Up at 9:00 AM. Return about 6 PM, depending on the route. Breaks along the way will be "short'n sweet" while you refuel or whatever. You may wish to also bring your snacks / refreshments.

11:00 AM Lewisburg PAThe "Season Opener Ride"...
"Let's kick off the 2008 Restaurant Ride season with an early dinner visit to the historic Lewisburg Hotel, which is right on Market St. in the heart of Lewisburg. We will leave KMS parking lot at 11 AM sharp on Sunday 27 Apr 08, taking College Ave. west to RT 45, where we will turn left and continue on 45 east for about 50 miles right into Lewisburg. After lunch, we might take a few minutes to stroll around the Lewisburg town center, then we will return via RT 192 through the R. B. Winter State Park (aka Halfway Dam), stopping for a breather, then continuing west on RT 192 into Centre Hall, where we will split up for home."  John Johnston     RIDE REPORT

The "TDK Ride"...
(This event was rained out, but it will be stockpiled for a future event).
Nittany Road Riders “LongRun”  prepared by Tom D. King

(After a recent visit to the Quecreek Mine Rescue site, your dedicated Ridemaster arbitrarily decided the site was a bit too underwhelming for the extra mileage needed to get there. It will be replaced by a stop at the Johnstown Flood National Memorial.) Due to the uncertainties of May weather conditions, the first Nittany Road Riders LongRun is scheduled more as a MediumRun. On Saturday, May 10 (Saturday because Sunday is Mother’s Day - an occasion of some importance to a few of us), we’ll pay a visit to the Flight 93 Crash Site Memorial near Shanksville, PA. On the way back, we’ll make a stop at the Johnstown Flood National Memorial just off Route 219. If there’s enough interest, we’ll tour the museum there, otherwise it will just be a pleasant parking lot stop at a picturesque location. Admission to the Flood Memorial is $4.00 if we decide to go in. Schedule: Optional 8:00 a.m. breakfast at the Waffle Shop on W. College Ave. Leave Kissell’s at 9:00 a.m.  Total riding time: Approx. 5 hours (225 miles). Total ‘non-riding’ time: Approx. 1.5 hours. Arrive back in State College: 3:30 p.m.   Updated PDF Route Sheet

The "Lock Haven Line"...
Brad has offered to lead a ride via the long way to Lock Haven, a stop for lunch at the Old Corner Grill in downtown Lock Haven, then return.
ROUTE INFO: We'll leave the KMS shop, head out to 550 north, and take that to Fillmore Road. Fillmore Road over the mountain to Unionville, then 150 to Milesburg. Then we'll take Moose Run Road to Marsh Creek Road, then back to 150 near Blanchard. 150 to Beech Creek, then Orviston Road to Sugar Run Road, to Lock Haven. After lunch, we'll return via Sugar Valley. Depending on the desires of the group, we'll either take Pine Station Road to Sugar Valley, or 477 from Mill Hall. There's also the option to take main roads back to State College from the lunch break. Since most of the roads have little margin for error, the riding pace will be moderate, perhaps even sedate, depending on your courage / skill / folly. Hope to see lots of you.                                    (12 bikes attended)

"Let's have the last scheduled Restaurant Run of 2008 head over to the famous Denny's Beer Barrel Pub in Clearfield. We will leave Kissell's at 11 AM sharp on Sunday, 12 Oct.  We'll take West College Ave. (RT 26) to Pine Grove Mills, continue west on RT 45 to RT 453, taking that north through Tyrone, and then following 453 until it intersects with RT 879, going north toward Clearfield. After lunch at Denny's, we will continue on RT 879 until it intersects with RT 144, and take that south back to State College. That should make a nice Fall loop ride. We should get back around 5 at the latest." by John Johnston, 30 Sep 08.

MORE VOLUNTEERS WANTED: Interested riders are encouraged to speak up to organize and serve as Ride Coordinators for other rides. Here are some suggestions for additional destinations, but new ideas are welcome:

- Jerry and Sally Learn offered to host the group or individuals on their sail boat on Lake Glendale (at Prince Gallitzin State Park)
- A ride to Oil City and the Zippo factory in Bradford
- Knoebel's Grove Amusement Park, Elysburg
-
Punxy Groundhog Run (other than Feb.)
- Swigart Antique Auto Museum near Huntingdon (and Miller's Diner)
- A Dirt / Dual Sport Ride for interested riders
Other ideas (w/ a Ride Coordinator), as well as "impromptu rides" are welcome!

So what's involved in volunteering to coordinate an NRR Ride?

  • Plan a favorite destination & the loop routes (departing from the Kissell shop).
  • Decide the date & times (check the main Event Schedule to avoid conflicts with other events).
  • Email the details to Woody to post here, then also post some info & the URL for the event for the NRR Yahoo! Group.
  • Prepare the Route Sheets for the trip. *
  • Print out one of the NRR Waiver Forms to obtain the signature of every driver and rider just before departure.
  • Get someone to take some photos for the Photo Gallery.

* With regard to the Route Sheets... (for safety, it's required that each rider be given a Route Sheet with either the text route or a map with the route): Tom D. King offered to donated the copying of route sheets at his business (King Printing). About 20 copies per ride is usually a safe (optimistic) number.
