"2007 Sunday Restaurant Runs"

All bikes & riders were welcome.

Our trip motto is:
"90 minutes out, 90 minutes back with a meal sandwiched in between."

On 15 Jan 07, six NRR riders volunteered to take charge of the monthly 2007 Restaurant Runs with regard to selecting a Sunday in that month, departure time, route sheets and "Target Menu" (the destination). Generally, each leader will aim for the 2nd Sunday of each month (except April & May) with an 11:00AM departure, but it's entirely up to each volunteer Ride Leader. The details will be posted here when available.

As usual, all riders, passengers, and bikes are welcome. Since we don't take RSVPs, can't predict the weather, and don't know how many to reserve for, we usually just take our chances and "show up" to eat at that restaurant. Fuel and food costs are on your own. Each trip will leave from the new Kissell Motorsport's shop (weather-permitting). Please arrive at KMS 15 minutes prior, fueled and ready-to-leave at the designated time. Please check the Yahoo! Group (a free subscription is required to join the email group) for any last-minute trip details. Depending on the number of bikes that appear, we will divide into two velocity groups: Sport Riders and Cruisers.

Typically, there is a "group ride" to the restaurant, we eat, then folks are free come back with the group, on their own or via another route. In any event, feel free to bring your best date and your camera, too.

11:00 AM The "Super-Burger Ride"...

The April Restaurant Run was rescheduled 15 Apr 07 to 22 Apr 07. Here are the details by John for a "Clearfield Trip" involving Denny's Pub: "...We will take some nice back roads up like PA 45 to PA 453 (through TyroneVisit Denny's Pub Website... and up the mountain) to PA 879 into Clearfield for lunch. Then continue on PA 879 to PA 144 (going through Karthaus) back to the S.C. area. Not TOO long a ride in case the weather is not "just so."

11:00 AM The "Ribs at Raystown Ride"...
Departs 11:00AM from Kissell Motorsports, weather-permitting. Please arrive by 10:45AM, fully-fueled and ready to ride. It's about 78 miles (a little less than two hours) to get to Seven Points Marina. Less time to return. If desired, we can split up into two velocity groups. Riders requiring a, hmmm, more-spirited pace may choose to leave in advance of the group Tom will be leading. Hope to see you at KMS; all bikes are welcome!

Clem's Barbeque (yes, the Port Matilda Clem's) is also operating the restaurant at the Seven Points Marina at Raystown Lake for the Spring/Summer season. It's nothing fancy, but they have outdoor seating overlooking the lake and the boat docks. They have burgers and other stuff, if you're not into ribs.
ROUTE:   (Click here for the route map in PDF format, courtesy of Tom D. King):

Tom's Report: "About twelve people made the trip. It was cool with a threat of rain and I think that discouraged some people from coming along, but we were very fortunate and it really didn't start raining until we reached Pine Grove Mills on the way home. Clem's was a nice place to eat, and as far as I know, a good time was had by all."

The "Pine Creek Ride"...

John Johnston has planned this ride to eat at the Hotel Manor along Pine Creek. The suggested route is to go out College Ave east to Pleasant Gap, then 144 to 192 at Centre Hall, then to 880 at Rebersburg, then to 44 through Ravensburg State Park, Jersey Shore and Waterville, to 414 to Blackwell. Coming back we can take 414 just a bit further to 287 south back to US 220 and then 64 back to State College. 2  velocity groups will set out, if numbers permit. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:

▪ Provide assistance and group information at dealer events held by Kissell Motorsports. Those details will be posted as they are announced by KMS.

▪ Craig Kissell also offered to provide a NRR Bulletin Board at the new shop for info about the group, the riders and their bikes... if a volunteer would step forward to develop and maintain the board.  Anyone?

▪ For interested riders to "step up" with suggestions to organize and serve as Ride Leaders for other monthly rides. Here are some suggestions for destinations, but new ideas are welcome:

Punxy Groundhog Run (other than Feb.)
Swigart Antique Auto Museum near Huntingdon (and Miller's Diner, which may also make this a good Restaurant Run event)
Bill's Old Bike Barn Loop Ride near Bloomsburg, PA (open 1-5 PM on Sundays)
SUGGESTIONS FROM THE RIDER SURVEYS:
- Jerry Learn offered to host the group on his sail boat on Lake Glendale (at Prince Gallitzin State Park)
- a trip to Oil City and also the Zippo factory (Bradford)
- a weekend trip up around the Finger Lakes, NY.
Other ideas, as well as "impromptu rides" are welcome!

So what's involved in volunteering to coordinate an NRR Ride?

  • Plan a favorite destination & the loop routes (departing from the new KMS shop). The routes are just as important as the destination.
  • Decide the date & times (check the main Event Schedule to avoid conflicts with other events).
  • Prepare the Route Sheets for the trip. *
  • Email the details to Woody to post here, then also post some info & the URL for the event for the NRR Yahoo! Group.
  • Print out one of the NRR Waiver Forms to obtain the signature of every driver and rider just before departure.
  • Get someone to take some photos for the Photo Gallery.

* With regard to the Route Sheets... (for safety, it's required that each rider be given a Route Sheet with either the text route or a map with the route): Tom D. King offered to donated the copying of route sheets at his business (King Printing). About 20 copies per ride is usually a safe (optimistic) number.

Thank you for helping to improve the Nittany Road Riders.
