DT: AMA Pro Racing Hill Climb
Location: White Rose Motorcycle Club, Spring Grove, PA
Description: Ride Leader: Jay B.
"The Sunday, June 2 day tour to the AMA Pro Hillclimb at the White Rose Motorcycle Club, between Hanover and York, is one of those biker pilgrimages that everyone should make at least once. The event is basically vertical drag racing in mud with highly customized two-wheeled apparatuses that once upon a time were motorcycles and are now the half-skeletons of monster trucks. Most every kind of bike ever built will be represented in the parking lot and you will share the experience with about 10,000 other maniacs. You can bring your own lunch in a cooler (but no glass bottles) or buy it onsite (the fish sandwiches are legendarily superb). A blanket or cushion to sit on (the viewing area is a grassy hillside) and sunblock are recommended accessories. We will gather at Kissell Motorsports beginning at 7:45 AM to go over the plan for the day with kickstands up at 8:15. Be there with full tanks; with almost 300 miles to cover, we need to avoid unplanned stops if possible. The ride down, mostly on back roads, will take about four hours with a couple of short rest/gas stops. At a brisk but sane pace, we should arrive shortly before the racing begins at 12:30 PM. We should leave between 3:00 and 3:30 for the mostly slab, three hour (again, with two short rest/gas stops) return trip."
